A very different place indeed, you can eat at On 5 from £800 per person during Royal Ascot and that gets you a five course luncheon and afternoon tea, plus the racecard and of course access to the seats to watch the races.

The Panoramic restaurant as the name suggests offers the highest viewpoint over the track at Ascot, all the way back to London on a clear day, and during Royal Ascot it will also offer the sight of Atul Kochhar of Michelin starred Benares restaurant fame at the stoves.

As Tom wanders back to the kitchen Atul explains that as Royal Ascot is such a British institution he’s going to use British ingredients prepared simply to let them shine.

He too will be in the kitchen at Royal Ascot, and a meal here will set you back around £1000 per person on the day.

Even if you’re not horsey person, a day out at Ascot or Royal Ascot is still great fun.

The launch comes after Roofnic ran as part of Marriott’s Canvas Project last year.

The initiative is aiming to shake up traditional hotel dining by offering entrepreneurs the chance to launch pop-up restaurants in Marriott hotels.

However, a representative for the hotel group told BigHospitality that Notch was not part of the Canvas Project, and was instead run through the initiative of the hotel management team.

But they confirmed that Marriott would be launching other pop-up restaurants at its hotels later this year.

The spokesperson said: “Given the success of Roofnic last year and other projects under the Canvas Initiative, new pop-up food content will [open] this year in the UK and Europe.

The award-winning fifth floor glass fronted restaurant has a spacious track-side viewing balcony and roof-top terrace offering spectacular views of the home straight and Windsor Great Park.

With menus designed by award-winning head chef Gemma Amor, fine dining at an Ascot raceday affords guests sumptuous cuisine complemented by thrilling racing action.

I continued with the theme of fish and tucked into roasted fillet of cod with griolles, pickled samphire, squid ink tortellini and roasted chicken consomme.

The white fish superbly fell apart from the fork, the accompaniments were soft and well-seasoned and the light gravy brought the whole dish together to create a comforting, humble yet refined meal.

What's included: Drinks reception, three course lunch, car parking label, King Edward VII Enclosure badge, fifth-floor track-side position, racecard and racing papers and private table Keep up to date with the latest news from around the county via the free Get Surrey app.
